The 2015 Yale Young Global Scholars have made it through an action-packed first week of seminars, lectures and discussions not to mention working on Capstone Projects. Somehow we’ve all managed to balance all this with consuming an extraordinary amount of Insomnia Cookies and spending time with new people from a huge range of countries. One highlight for me was Professor Jacob Hacker’s lecture “Is American Politics Undermining the American Dream?” which highlighted shifts of power and wealth to the wealthiest 1% of American society and the impact these privileged few have on politics. This lecture sparked lots of debate during the subsequent discussion section about how we, as future leaders, might address this problem as well as what might have caused it. Here’s to another great week!
