"The seminar helped me create an educated stance on the current issue."

Gun violence is a very current issue in the United States. This is probably one of the reasons I chose the seminar about the relationship between gun violence and mental illness. Prior to the seminar, I knew shootings were a relevant issue, but I was not educated enough to formulate an opinion on gun regulations. Our instructor was very knowledgeable about psychology and she taught us about the history of gun legislation in the United States. Although the history was specific to the United States, the diverse environment of the students brought unique perspectives; there were teenagers from Dubai, Brazil, China, Belgium, India, and even more regions. Their own experiences and knowledge of gun regulations in their own countries added to the discussion. Towards the end of the seminar, we debated about how mental illness should or should not play a role in gun violence legislation. The seminar helped me create an educated stance on the current issue.
