I still cannot believe I attended YYGS last summer. Attending a summer camp at Yale University is great on its own, but the people I was surrounded by and the classes made my experience even better.

I first heard about YYGS through my guidance counselor. I knew it was going to be challenging, but after watching some YouTube videos of past YYGS students and visiting its website, I decided to give it a try. I was so surprised when I got my acceptance letter. Although SEE was not my first choice, I am very glad that I attended this session because it helped me discover a new passion. I have never been interested in environmental studies as much as I am right now.

I met about 200 students from more than 50 countries just in two week, and I don’t think this is something I can experience anywhere else. I was worried at first that I wouldn’t be able to fit in, but once I started introducing myself to people my view totally changed. Because we were grouped by similar passion and had common interests, it was especially easy for me to approach them.

The schedule seemed very tight in the beginning, but I quickly got used to it. It was great being able to listen to specialized professors during the lectures and discuss them during the discussion sessions. The discussion leaders were very helpful as they helped us view and approach a problem in different ways. The seminars were unique and they were probably my favorite part of YYGS. They gave me an opportunity to explore specific topics, and it was great meeting Yale undergraduate and graduate students.

Not only I learned more about sustainability, but I also got to know the Yale campus better. During family time, we walked around the campus and visited various places, such as the British Art Gallery and Yale Law School. One of my most memorable experiences is visiting the Kroon Hall.

Again, I am so glad that I attended YYGS last summer, and I could not have asked for a better experience.
