Rania from Tunisia

Hi! I am Rania, I am from Tunisia.

I had the privilege to visit Yale this year thanks to YYGS, a once in a lifetime opportunity. YYGS has introduced to the elites from literally every continent, something I don't do every day. YYGS has shifted my perspective that I had on the world. It has made me aware of the problems that we suffer from and the huge potential that we hold to change the world. Thanks to the International Affairs and Security session, I discovered my passion for world politics with an emphasis on privacy issues.

The biggest benefits of YYGS were numerous: starting from waking up at 6 am to going to bed at 11 pm. In Tunisia, I always ask myself when am I going to sleep, but in YYGS the question changed and it became when am I going to wake up? The adrenaline rush that I had every day because I was sleep deprived, fueled my excitement to go to the next lecture or seminar. I was very fond of the seminars that I had no previous idea about like the FBI vs Apple case and the privacy question that emerged from it, or the seminar about Marxism, communism, and anarchism that altered my perspective on these ideologies and made me even more interested in learning more about them.

Furthermore, I definitely enjoyed the suite experience, where every night I had quality discussions with my suitemate about how can we help our countries and advance it, or discuss our seminars and capstones. As for the capstone project, it has enabled me to improve my research skills, introduce me the writing level for college and the appropriate ways to do that. It has successfully taught me also how to distinguish biased sources and pick out the information I needed with the most precision.

One of my memorable experiences was the simulation. It was an experience that I enjoyed. And finally, YYGS has greatly impacted my college plans. Now, I believe that Yale is the only place where I can thrive and become an emerging leader. The reason is that they offer great faculty and professors not to graduate students exclusively but to the undergraduate as well. Also, the common core curriculum that Yale provides is the perfect fit for me since I would like to continue to have a broad education and make an educated choice for my major.

I want to develop my critical skills and simultaneously improving my scientific knowledge. YYGS is one of my biggest achievements so far, and I invite everyone to apply because it is definitely life changing.
