YYGS is…
My time at the YYGS summer program was one of the most exciting times in my life. Being in the midst of world renowned scientists and intellectual peers intrigued my curiosity, enhanced my interests, and strengthened my passion for knowledge. Before coming to YYGS, I was a bit scared of what lied ahead. I had to travel by myself to another country and go to a place full of strangers. However, as soon as I stepped into the campus, I realized that everyone was like me, anxious but excited. After that realization, all my fears went away and I was eager to start my journey at YYGS.

YYGS is an educational journey and a social adventure.
At YYGS, I had the privilege of listening to renowned scientists’ lectures on their research, have intellectual discussions about all the things I learned, and obtain knowledge on various subjects I didn’t even know I was interested in. Before coming to YYGS, I was set on doing pre-med studies, getting a degree and becoming a doctor. However, after taking part in this program, my desire to do scientific research has been ignited. Trying to find a balance between my two interests is something I am looking forward to working on in university.
During this program, I have met a lot of people and I have made new friends. Trying to navigate through new friendships and finding something new to do each day was a fun challenge. Additionally, learning about the cultures of other students has been an amazing and eye-opening experience.

YYGS is hard work and fun.
Lectures, seminars, and Capstone projects- these were the activities that filled my schedule at YYGS. As a YYGS participant, I had to research several topics and further my understanding of them. I also had the opportunity to work with other people on projects and researches. After finishing my work, I managed to have fun with friends and go around New Haven. I also spent some enjoyable free time during Family Time.

YYGS is diversity and unity.
At YYGS, there were people from different countries and backgrounds but we were all united in our pursuit of knowledge. We each had our own strengths, interests, and weaknesses, but by working together as a team, we were able to learn from one another and respect each other.

YYGS is humbling and empowering.
At YYGS, I met some incredible people, whether they be lecturers, my instructors, or my fellow peers.  They have achieved great things and conducted amazing research, and this has encouraged me to work harder.

All in all, my YYGS experience has been extraordinary and memorable. I would like to thank YYGS for giving me this opportunity and opening a whole new world of options for me. I would also like to thank the seminar instructors, the lecturers, my Capstone group instructors (Ruonan and Parastou), my family leader (Pranshu), and all the faculty members and staff. I am also grateful to Ethiopian Airlines for sponsoring my flight to attend this program.
